About FL Studio

What is FL Studio?
It is a program that allows users to create their own music. Majority of the users use FL Studio for all kinds of beats from rap, to techno and dance. However, FL Studio can be used in any other ways. Riley Weller, also known as GratiTous, concludes that users can record their instrumentals into the program by recording with a microphone, or connecting a guitar into the program by recording with a microphone, or connecting it directly to the computer using an audio interface and then editing it.

The History of FL Studio

The history of FL Studio began in 1994 when 19 year old developer Didier Dambrin ( aka Gol ) won 1st place in the "Da Vinci" contest held by IBM, a computer hardware company. Image-Line, a Dutch-Belgium software company, noticed his talents and managed to convince him to work for the company. When Didier started working for Image-Line, he introduced his first game to the company and everyone liked it. His game was so good that even Ice-T played it for thirty minutes on some adult show in Las Vegas. Ice-T even commented that Didier's game 'beats cocaine'. ._.

During that time, Didier was also interested about music making applications such as Hammerhead and Rebirth 338. Then, he got an idea about combining the two applications to form a step sequencer which consists of rows and steps. Therefore, he developed a new music making software called 'FruityLoops'.

When FruityLoops was first introduced to Image-Line, the company was confused about placing its product range. Eventually, the program became popular as many people downloaded the demo a few days after its release. At the same time, Image-Line created Lifetime Free Updates for the program where existing customers can update their current software for free.

The first few years after FruityLoops' release were hard for Image-Line. During that time, sales were rare and the company seek for outside assistance to host demos on their servers. Didier has the idea about generating additional income by developing an EJay program called 'FruityTracks' that was created for Mattel into Pro-DJ and Radio 528 Music Machine. FruityLoops than slowly transformed from a bisc midi drum machine to a full featured virtual studio that most musicians use today.

How Fruity Loops Became FL Studio

Four years after the production of FruityLoops, its name has been changed to FLStudio. Here's why:

1 - Kelloggs, a cereal company challenged Image-Line when FruityLoops is applied as a trademark in America. Image-Line had a chance to win the case. But Kelloggs came up with the idea of releasing CDs in their cereal boxes. And because of that, Image-Line avoided fighting with them for 5 years so that they do not waste any money for something 'unecessary'.

2 - The word 'Fruity' has many kinds of meanings and Image-Line needs to avoid such controversies when doing international marketing appeal.

3 - The word 'Loops' means that music was made by looping and no musicians want to b part of it. One of Image-Line's customers nearly lost a contract because of it.

After changing its name, FL Studio has received lots of credibility from its customers as they do not feel ashamed about their program to make music. The FL Studio demo has been downloaded for over 30 thousand times a day (WOW!) and it is widely used by world famous music industries.
